The Benefits of Trampolining

As well as great fun for children, adults too will get hours of enjoyment and a good general full body workout from trampolines. We are sure that you will get endless hours of use year after year. Studies by NASA scientists show that rebounding on a trampoline is 68% more effective than jogging and yet requires less effort! You can also develop both upper and lower body strength just as effectively as weight lifting without the strain or threat of pulled or torn muscles. Rebounding on a trampoline has been shown to outperform swimming as an all round exercise.

The benefits of trampolining are:
Exercise through Play – it’s great fun and your body is benefiting!
Balance - trying to bounce in one place on a trampoline means you have to develop a keen sense of balance and awareness of how your body's balance can be adjusted (or compromised) by small movements at the body's extremities.
Co-ordination - closely related to balance is the need to coordinate arm and leg actions, as well as many fast-twitch muscle groups, necessary to form the different shapes and perform the various somersaults and twists.
Muscular strength and endurance - not only the lower body muscles but also the upper body muscles and your core muscles are worked when trampolining
Improved lung and cardiovascular efficiency - bouncing on a trampoline increases the pulse rate and strengthens muscle groups essential for a healthy cardiovascular system.
Bilateral motor skills - the action of bouncing whilst trying to maintain balance and coordinate bodily extremities calls on both sides of the body and, indeed, the brain to become engaged which is quite different to many ground based sports where one side can often be favoured (most notably in football for example).
Rhythm - again closely related but distinct is the need to bounce in tune with the trampoline to achieve optimum height for least effort.
Self-confidence - even those least confident with sports will find it possible to make some progress on the relatively forgiving surface of a trampoline and this progress will help boost confidence.
Improved lymphatic circulation - probably not quite as good as detoxing entirely but the short periods of weightlessness between periods of higher than average G forces that occur whilst bouncing actually helps the body get rid of toxins; physical activity and gravity effects are essential to the lymphatic system achieving this and both are more actively engaged when trampolining than with almost any other sport.
Low impact - although bouncing is an impact sport the period of acceleration and deceleration is much longer than with activities such as jogging where the surface used has no give at all.
Trampolining is extremely easy and fun. Besides the obvious fitness benefits of trampolines, it works many major muscles, increases your heart rate and flexibility, and improves your reflexes. It develops your body balance and physical fitness, strengthens the body muscles, ligaments, tendons and improves body movement. Most importantly trampolining can eradicate obesity and promotes good health, which can also reduce the risk of arthritis.

The Weight Loss and Nutrition Fad

It’s all about balance

Getting in shape and being thin is all people want these days but just being thin is not what is important. The weight loss and nutrition fad that is out there is not the healthiest one. We should not want to just "get thin." We should want to eat healthy, workout, and get the nutrition we need to then have weight loss.

Men and women have different body types. Men and women can not lose weight the same way, they have to take a different approach. Men naturally have faster metabolisms than women do. So, unfortunately, it is harder for women to lose weight. Due to this, many women feel that they need to starve themselves to get thin. This is not the right thing to do. This will actually only make your metabolism slower. When you have a slow metabolism, you won't lose weight. You'll just gain more back in the end.

So, how can you achieve proper weight loss & nutrition? There are many great diet plans out there to help you get started. In reality though, all you need to do is start eating the right foods and working out. Working out is not for everyone, so make it fun. Go for a bike ride with your family or just play catch in the backyard. Whatever you have to do to get up and get moving will work. Don't think that you have to go for long runs to get into shape. That is not what you have to do. Working out can be anything that involves physical activity. So, the slogan "eat less, move more" is so true.

As for the right foods to eat, we could go on forever. Fruits and vegetables at every meal along with protein and a little bit of carbs is great. Fruits are filled with antioxidants and other nutritional things to help you maintain a healthy body weight. We also recommend that you try to eat spicy foods. Spicy foods boost your metabolism and help you shed unwanted fat. This does not mean you have to eat jalapeƱos at every meal. Just add a little red pepper here and there and you should be set. The addition of healthy supplements on a daily basis is also recommended in order to make certain you are receiving a balanced daily requirement of nutritional food. Get started today and you'll see that you too can obtain weight loss & nutrition benefits.

12 Basic Steps to help you Lose Weight

Combining advice on healthier eating and physical activity

1.      Don’t skip breakfast

Research shows that eating breakfast helps you control your weight. Some people skip breakfast as they think it will help them lose weight but missing meals doesn’t help us lose weight and isn’t good for us because we can miss out on essential nutrients. It could also encourage us to snack more throughout the day because you feel hungry’.

2.     Eat regular meals

Some people think missing meals will help them lose weight, but it has been shown that eating regularly during the day helps to burn calories at a faster rate as well as reduce the temptation to snack on foods high in fat and sugar.

3.     Eat plenty of fruit and veg

Fruit and veg are low in calories and fat and high in fibre – three essential ingredients for successful weight loss. They also contain plenty of vitamins and minerals.

4.     Get more active

Studies show that regular activity is key to losing weight and keeping it off. As well as providing numerous health benefits, exercise can help burn off the excess calories you can't cut through dieting alone. Find an activity you enjoy and are able to fit into your daily routine.

5.     Drink plenty of water

People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. You can end up consuming extra calories when a glass of water is really what you need. You should aim to drink about six to eight glasses (1.2 litres) of fluid, preferably water, every day.

6.     Eat high-fibre foods

Foods containing lots of fibre will keep you feeling full for longer, which is perfect for losing weight. Fibre is only found in food from plants, such as fruit and veg, oats, wholegrain bread, brown rice and pasta, beans, peas and lentils.

7.      Read food labels

Knowing how to read food labels can help you choose healthier options, and keep a check on the amount of calories, fat, salt and sugars you eat. Use the calorie information to work out how a particular food fits into your daily calorie allowance on the weight loss plan.

8.     Use a smaller plate

Studies show that people who use smaller plates tend to eat smaller portions and still be satisfied. By eating with smaller plates and bowls, you may be able to gradually get used to eating smaller portions without going hungry. It takes about 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain it’s full, so eat slowly and stop eating before you feel full.

9.     Don’t ban foods

Don’t ban any foods from your weight loss plan, especially the ones you like. Banning foods will only make you crave them more. There’s no reason you can’t enjoy the occasional treat as long as you stay within your daily calorie allowance.

10. Don't stock junk food

To avoid temptation, avoid stocking junk food, such as chocolate, biscuits, crisps and sweet fizzy drinks, at home. Instead, stock up on healthy snacks, such as fruit, unsalted rice cakes, oat cakes, unsalted or unsweetened popcorn and fruit juice.

11.   Cut down on alcohol

Did you know a standard glass of wine can contain as many calories as a piece of chocolate, and a pint of lager has about the same calorie count as a packet of crisps? Over time, drinking too much can easily contribute to weight gain.

12.  Plan your meals

Plan your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the week, making sure you stick to your calorie allowance. Try to plan for four to seven days’ worth of meals and snacks. Make a shopping list, but don’t shop when you’re hungry as that can lead to high-calorie impulse buy!

How Yoga Will Promote Weight Loss

If you are battling with weight gain or obesity due to unhealthy eating habits or lack of sufficient exercise, then yoga should be of interest to you. It is possible to lose weight as well as to relax by engaging in yoga. Yoga will strengthen your core, tone you up and increase your flexibility with the various poses, techniques and diets. Here is a look at a plethora of ways in which yoga can lead to weight loss.

Yogic poses (asanas)
These poses are geared towards fitting your health needs and age. A yoga instructor keeps in mind your health issues before prescribing certain yogic poses that may help you lose weight effectively. These asanas include sun salutation, shoulder stand, fish, wheel and bird poses, triangle poses among others. In addition, these poses help to check weight gain due to hormonal imbalance as well as allow the endocrine glands to run smoothly. The immune system is strengthened and indigestion and allergies are reduced by these yoga poses.

Yogic techniques
The Prana Shakti is a very effective and ancient method of balancing one's weight. This technique is void of physical movements but deals with the invocation of the life force called Prana through breath. The Prana converts into heat that burns fat and consequently weight loss. Mastering this technique takes only a few weeks of practice.

Yogic diets
Postures, poses and techniques work hand in hand with the yogic diets to lose weight
effectively. Healthy eating habits, detoxifying frequently and avoiding junk and sugary
foods, while eating a balanced yogic diet with lots of water intake are a must if you want to
lose weight. Yoga alters your taste of food naturally, without deprivation or any effort.
Yoga helps you to be in touch with your body and hence get to refrain from energy
draining foods or sugars. Yoga will help you eat in a healthy manner leading to weight loss
and consequently better health.

Positive mental attitude
Accepting that you have weight issues that need attention is the first step to the weight loss
journey. Changing your attitude towards exercise and healthy diets in relation to your
desired weight is of importance. Yoga allows for holistic thinking that integrates the whole
person. It requires the presence of the body, mind, spirit and heart to have a unified way
of living and a new positive attitude. This naturally controls your emotional, physical and
spiritual needs and hence you are able to say no to overfeeding, laziness and poor feeding
habits without strain and be on the path of losing weight.

Yoga motions
First timers who intend to lose weight should partake yoga but at small steps. Start small
and grow with practice until you can withstand intense activities or poses. The intensity
and aggressiveness of the superior yoga movements, act as workouts that lead to weight
loss but should be carried out with care and under an instructor. Certainly, yoga is one of the best ways to lose weight smartly and as a long term measure. You do not have to force your body to accept certain crash diets or hectic exercises but in the relaxing and meditative poses, techniques, diets, motions, and attitude change, weight loss is achievable.

Avocados Have Hair and Skin Benefits

Avocados might look like an unassuming vegetable but it trumps most vegetables in terms of nutrients.  Nutritionists are basically united in saying that it is a complete food.   Avocados are rich in potassium, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin K,  fiber, folate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, copper and protein and have been used in treating a ton of skin and hair ailments.   The skin should have a label saying, the hair and skin healer, made and produced by nature.
It’s that good… and you will be hard pressed to find anything in nature that works as well for black hair. The avocado itself and the avocado oil are really winners with African American type hair, both natural and processed, this vegetable does not discriminate. Apart from its nutritious goodness, avocado is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.  The avocado contains oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol, regulate blood pressure and guard against stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
Avocados, with their natural fatty richness are good for skin and hair. It was the Egyptians who first used this fruit because it prevents hair loss and promotes hair growth. It is also used to improve the condition of hair by acting as a moisturizer. This fruit makes hair shiny and gorgeous and skin moisturized and supple.
The avocado is used in several commercial preparations, especially conditioners or hair masks but you can make your own avocado hair mask at home and experience your hair going from brittle and dry to soft and shiny. It’s not magic, its avocado.

Avocado Hair Mask

Ingredients:
1 ripe avocado (peeled)
1 Tbsp. Yogurt
1 Tbsp. jojoba oil
1 egg

Directions:
In a blender, put all the ingredients together and blend until smooth. On damp hair, work the ingredients into your hair paying special attention to your hair ends. Be generous with the mask when putting it on. Wrap hair with a plastic cap and leave on hair for an hour or more.
For quicker conditioning, go under an overhead dryer for fifteen minutes. Shampoo hair after and then condition. You can add a variation of carrier and essence oils to the recipe if you so desire.  Instead of using jojoba you can use castor oil, coconut oil or olive oil.
Avocados help to hydrate dry skin and it is ideal to use for all types of skin. Using this avocado mask for your face will leave your face, soft, smooth and hydrated. If you are battling with dark spots or scars this mask should be especially beneficial to smooth out your skin tone. Especially if used on a regular basis.

Avocado Facial Mask

Ingredients:
1/2 ripe avocado
3-4 drops of Vitamin E oil

Directions:
In a blender put the peeled avocado and add the Vitamin E oil, blend until the combination and the mass is smooth. Wash face with warm water alone, this will open up your pores. Pat face until it slightly damp, gently massage the avocado mixture into the face. Allow it to dry completely or to sit on face for 20 minutes to half an hour. Wash off with lukewarm water and do a final rinse with cool water.
For a variation of this facial, for ladies or gents who have dark spots or freckles, you can add a teaspoon of lime or lemon juice to the mixture. For very dry skin, especially in the colder months of the year, add a tablespoon of honey for a good hydration.
These two recipes can be tweaked and refined to suit your needs. Using the avocado alone for hair as a conditioner or as a pre-shampoo treatment works just as well. Adding your favorite essential or carrier oils will bump up the nutritive value of your treatments.  Experiment and have fun with your avocado.

Weight Loss Guide and Waist Size

Many doctors now believe that when it comes to your health, your waist measurement is important.

While knowing your body mass index (BMI) is a good way to decide if you're overweight, it doesn't tell the whole story.
BMI is a measure of how healthy your weight is for your height.
If you have a high BMI, you're likely to be carrying extra fat. But your health could be at greater risk depending on where you store that fat.
Having a large amount of tummy fat (compared to fat around your bottom or thighs) makes you more likely to develop diabetes and heart problems.
A healthy waist circumference for men is less than 94cm (37 inches), and for women it’s less than 80cm (32 inches).
Losing weight and keeping it off isn’t easy, but it has many benefits. You may only need to make small changes to your lifestyle to maintain a healthy weight.

Why lose weight?
Obesity causes 9,000 premature deaths in England every year and reduces life expectancy by an average of nine years.
It's also linked to serious health problems and increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancers of the breast, colon and prostate.
Most people who are overweight can blame their excess weight on eating more calories than they burn.
That means there are two main options if you want to lose weight: eat less or do more physical activity. The best way to lose weight is a combination of the two.

Weight loss tips

You can reduce your risk of obesity-related health problems by losing weight through eating more healthily and doing more physical activity.
There are many articles to help you attain a healthy weight.
You can cut down on calories by making healthy food swaps in your everyday diet.
It’s not just small changes to your eating habits that can make a big difference. Getting more physical activity also helps you shed the pounds. You can do it simply in just 3 activity bursts each day.
Even if you're well on the way to your target weight, there'll be plenty of temptation to overindulge.
One excuse for choosing a quick, fat-laden supper is that healthy eating is expensive. Learning how to eat well on the cheap will help you save the pennies as well as calories.
Two-thirds of dieters regain all the weight they've lost within four years.
